Established in 2020 by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the Youth Commission is the official youth advisory body to the County. We are a youth-led organization that amplifies young voices in County policy and decision-making. Our members—many with lived experience in foster care, juvenile justice, and homelessness—bring vital perspectives to improve systems that serve youth and families. The Commission provides a platform for authentic youth input and collaboration with County leaders to create meaningful change. If you’d like to receive updates as they happen, please visit to subscribe to our email updates.
The Youth Commission works to strengthen policies and programs affecting young people in Los Angeles County. We advocate for youth-centered legislation, provide recommendations to the Board of Supervisors, and promote civic engagement among young leaders. By increasing youth participation in government, especially those from systems-impacted backgrounds, we aim to ensure that every department serving youth is guided by their lived expertise.
We partner with County departments and community-based organizations to improve policies, programs, and services for youth. Our work focuses on engaging those with experience in foster care, justice involvement, or homelessness, empowering them to shape systems that directly impact their lives. Through education, mentorship, professional development, and mental health resources, we support youth in reaching their full potential and becoming leaders in their communities.
The Los Angeles County Youth Commission stands apart through its direct access to County decision-makers and its focus on systems-impacted youth leadership. As one of the first commissions in county to lean on young people for their expertise, we bridge the gap between policymakers, practitioners, and youth, ensuring that those most affected by County services have a voice in shaping them.
